Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
