The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
